Fourth Industry Informal Gathering Organised by CWE at the Chemnitz Trade Fair Centre
CWE's guests met at the Chemnitz Trade Fair Centre for the fourth industry informal gathering. The main subject at the well attended event was the newly planned Specialist Trade Fair for Industry and Technology - SIT, which is being held from 28 February - 4 March 2007. In addition, Uta Reiher from tradu4you* GmbH informed guests about the opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises to ensure that their fair stands are an even greater success.
Ulrich Geissler, the managing director of CWE, first presented the results of the second partial analysis of specialist staff (there will be a full report on this in our newsletter). Then Michael Kynast, the managing director of Event- und Messegesellschaft Chemnitz mbH spoke about the way the Chemnitz Trade Fair Centre and the SIT have developed. With more than 18 exhibitions and trade fairs in 2006, e.g. the INTEC and mtex, he stressed that the Chemnitz Trade Fair Centre is the largest multi-functional event centre in south-west Saxony. The major advantages, he added, were its regional roots and its proximity to local customers. Customer-oriented work, he said, was also the key to being able to hold your ground in the market place in the age of globalisation.
Kynast added that it was not only the regional emphasis, but also the establishment of links between the worlds of business, science and even politics, which were highly important for the success of a company and the region as a whole. The specialist trade fair planned for the coming year, he said, fulfilled this function completely: the SIT provides a communications and cooperation platform for linking the expertise present in the region. He said that it would link the regional value creation chains in engineering and plant construction, the motor industry, the IT and textile sectors, plastics processing companies and the whole spectrum of suppliers. "The SIT provides an opportunity for bringing together local companies, research and development facilities at a trade fair at close quarters," Kynast summarised.
In her lecture entitled "Your fair stand: a total success or ineffective, a waste of money and useless", Uta Reiher from tradu4you* GmbH explained the opportunities and common errors made during trade fair appearances. "One of the typical errors is having unmotivated and ignorant staff on a fair stand. Even hostesses, despite their outward appearance, are usually counter-productive, for the main issue is to underline the expertise that the company has to offer. This can only be done by motivated staff who know their stuff," Uta Reiher stressed. She not only mentioned the central significance of having the right staff on stand, but also talked about the need to design a stand properly and mentioned one point that is often forgotten: the follow-up work after the fair. "Contacts that have been made must be renewed within a fortnight, otherwise the effect of the fair has been wasted," Uta Reiher said.
