The Chemnitz University of Technology (TU Chemnitz) and the Technologie Centrum Chemnitz (TCC) and more than 50 research centres and institutes form the heart of the R&D expertise in the city.
The Department of Micro-Devices Integration at the Fraunhofer Institute for Reliability and Microintegration in particular and the Systems Technology Department at the Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology provide important academic expertise alongside the university.
160 professors currently provide personal care for more than 10,000 students. The number of students has almost doubled since 1995. The Engineering Faculty is an internationally renowned, flagship teaching and research centre at Chemnitz University of Technology carrying out innovative research work that is relevant to the market. Product development, the design of production processes and information and communications technology are key areas of expertise.
The research being carried out in the field of microtechnologies in the Departments of Measurement and Sensor Technology, Microsystem and Instrument Engineering, Microtechnology and Micro-manufacturing Technology all promise a bright future.
Chemnitz University of Technology not only provides courses in engineering, but also electrical engineering and IT, economics, computer sciences, the sciences, mathematics and at the Faculty of Philosophy. The latter comprises a broad range of subjects including languages, literature, culture, social sciences and psychology and education.
Chemnitz University of Technology is also the most successful start-up university in Saxony with 44 companies being set up and more than 100 full-time jobs created in the period 2003-2004.
