Engineering
Based on its 150 years of industrial history, Chemnitz is now the centre of the eastern German engineering sector. More than 100 medium-sized enterprises operate in this industrial field. In addition, there are more than 500 engineering and supplier companies in the surrounding region.
The sector exports almost 50 percent of its goods and has increased
productivity by more than 60 percent since 1995.
The Chemnitz region has outstanding expertise in manufacturing machine tools, textile machines and special machines - and also automation technology. More than 10,000 specialists are employed in this sector.
Chemnitz is the ideal centre for setting up or expanding technical services companies in the engineering sector. Many companies from the most important user sectors, the motor industry, machine tool construction and automation, are based here too. And when compared to other European regions, high average gross investments have been made in engineering assets in Chemnitz over the last few years. And once DHL's new European express goods and logistics centre has been built at Leipzig/Halle airport nearby, local companies will have new opportunities to expand their own service quality.
