Leading Companies

More than 6,500 new companies have set up in business in Chemnitz and its surrounding region since 1995. Most of these have been medium-sized enterprises and the low working costs and good qualifications among specialist staff in the region provide companies with the necessary flexibility to respond to changes in the market place quickly - these are good reasons why Chemnitz has such a bright future.

Thyssen Krupp, Siemens VDO and IBM, companies like Hörmann Rawema and Union Werkzeugmaschinen GmbH are some of the leading companies based in Chemnitz together with the Volkswagen engine factory.

Many foreign investors have also placed their confidence in the area: Starrag (Switzerland) merged with Heckert and Niles Simmons (USA), Barmag (Switzerland), Samputensili (Italy), Anchor Lamina (Canada) and the IBM subsidiary IT Services and Solutions GmbH have all deliberately chosen to come to Chemnitz.

This is due to the outstanding local expertise available in their sectors and attractive business start-up conditions. Interesting subsidies are also available for potential investors.
