SAXEED is the joint company founder network for the universities in south-west Saxony. Its partners are the Chemnitz University of Technology, the University of Applied Sciences in Zwickau, the University of Applied Sciences in Mittweida and the Freiberg University of Mining and Technology. Since the project started in September 2002, SAXEED has been promoting and supporting company start-ups emerging from universities and research institutions. It concentrates on three tasks: motivating people to start up in business, providing knowledge and expertise for successful business start-ups and supporting entrepreneurs as they realize their idea.
Successful proposals can be continued thanks to regional support, for example, by the provision of so-called pre-incubators in Chemnitz and Zwickau. These are managed offices, where company founders can carry out their work. These start-up offices have already been used at the Technologie Centrum Chemnitz since December 2003.
All four universities taking part provide these facilities for company founders and those aspiring to emulate them. The regional network acts as a mediator between those interested in starting up a business and the existing facilities. What is more, other private services to accompany and support those setting up in business are constantly being developed.

The consultancy facilities and organisations for people starting up in business in the region of south-west Saxony are numerous and varied. This potential has been brought together in the "Chemnitz Working Group for Supporting Company Start-ups". It brings together the Chemnitzer Wirtschaftsförderungs- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH, (Chemnitz Business Support and Development Company), the Chemnitz Savings Bank, the Chemnitz Rural District Local Authority Business Support Company, the South-west Saxon Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Technologie Centrum Chemnitz (TCC), the Chemnitz Labour Office and SAXEED. The working group has drawn up a matrix of services to provide more transparency for company founders, those interesting in setting up a business and all the network partners.
